‘Who are the Pirates?’ ‘We arrrr!’

The club was established in 2014 with a few friends getting together one evening a week in Centennial Park. The next year the Pirates played socially against one other club every Saturday. In 2015/16 the first Pirates team played in the Cronulla Sutherland Junior Baseball Association. In 2016/17 three teams joined the competition (two Under 9s teams and an Under 12s).

After thanking the dedicated coaches, helpers and supporters, Fishburn praised the three champion Pirates teams for an impressive 2016/17 season. The Buccaneers (coach Andrew Billing) won the Division 2 league while the Blackguards (coach Chris Harding) were runners-up in the same league. One by one the Under 9s boys and girls stepped forward to receive their trophies and medals.

Congratulations to Buccaneers Georgia Cummings, Connor Drysdale, Nicholas Rowley, Ben Vernik, Anton Perumal, Ted Rayner, Soma Sakamoto, Josh Billing, Piper Finlayson, Cody Finlayson; and Blackguards Daisy Mountney, Lewis Mountney, Saxon Hays, Mateo Toeto, Adam Parker, Nick Harding, Dooson Baek and Samuel Pemberton.

The Rascals (Under 12s) finished fourth, losing their semi-final by just one run. Acknowledging their disappointment, Fishburn commended their good efforts and positive attitude. Each player was presented with a trophy: Penn Oconnor, Max Roger, Declan Mason, Brodie Williams, Pheonix Williams, Lewie Church, Patrick  Keller, Mali Toeto, Rubi Cooper and Juma Mrisho.

The proceedings came to a close after official photographs and a treasure chest activity in which Pirates were encouraged to share the loot (baseball cards and stickers, pendants and lollies).
