2014 NRL Premiers South Sydney Rabbitohs – ‘WE DID IT!’

After being seen as surplus to the NRL competition in 1999, the Rabbitohs crowned a remarkable comeback when they beat the Canterbury Bulldogs 30-6 … 43 years after their last grand final appearance.

Led by stellar performances from Sam Burgess, George Burgess and Luke Keary, the Rabbitohs overpowered the Bulldogs, leaving long-suffering Souths fans at the stadium and throughout Redfern and surrounds in tears of joy.

The game also meant a farewell to Sam Burgess and Ben Te’o. Burgess had an incredible season and his big-hearted performances ever since coming to Australia will mean he will no doubt go down in Rabbitohs history as one of the best forwards to wear the red and green.

Despite the loss of Burgess and Te’o, Souths look well set to challenge for premierships ongoing with a youthful and talented core headed by Dylan Walker, Alex Johnston, Luke Keary and Burgess’ bruising brothers.

Passionate post-victory celebrations at Homebush as well as Souths Juniors and out onto Anzac Parade, and a Redfern Street party well into the wee hours of Monday followed by a massive fan day at Redfern Oval kicked off an emotional week of celebrations for the Rabbitohs – 2014 NRL premiers and the pride of the league!
