Welcome to new volunteers
We extend our welcome to new volunteers Lucy Gleeson and Nina Goc. Thank you both, and we wish you the very best with your journalism studies.

We are all things musical this month.

The Metropolitan Orchestra
Firstly, I was fortunate to attend a performance of the Metropolitan Orchestra at Leichhardt Town Hall. This orchestra is supported by Inner West Council, and the concert was free and attended by a full house of music lovers. If you get a chance to catch up with them, you will be amazed at their expertise, professionalism and enthusiasm. Contact for future events.

Dreams, Shadows & Turkish Folk Songs – September 7, 8pm
The Bourbaki Ensemble & Ayse Goknur Shanal at the Utzon Room, Sydney Opera House. The program will also include works by Peter Sculthorpe and Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder. Tickets are available through the Sydney Opera House site.

Blak & Blu – Opens September 14, 2pm at the Orchard Gallery, 56a Raglan Street, Waterloo
This is South Sydney’s annual pen-on-paper Art Prize, sponsored by Blak Douglas. This year the theme is “Deep within”, and works will be with black and/or blue biro.

Local Government Elections – Saturday September 14, 8am-6pm throughout NSW
Don’t forget to vote as voting is compulsory. If you are working, or going away on the day, pre-polling is your solution. To find a pre-poll location in your area, click here. Voting Options and follow the prompts.

RUOK Day – Thursday September 12
The theme for this year is RUOK? Any Day. Wear a touch of yellow on the day to show your support.

SSH Harbour Cruise aboard the Tribal Warrior
Sunday October 27, from 3.30-7.30pm
Ticket cost is $75/$50
The cruise is a fundraiser for the South Sydney Herald, and will feature culture, music, sunset and a BBQ on Clark Island. We will meet at the Eastern Pontoon, Circular Quay 3pm. Book Now!

School of Rural Health welcomes new medical students

The School of Rural Health is excited to welcome the 2025 cohort of first-year medical students, who will undertake the University of Sydney’s entire four-year Doctor of Medicine program in Dubbo.

Summer on the Green despite the rain

WATERLOO: Stormy weather couldn’t stop the community from turning out for Summer on the Green, enjoying rock climbing, twirly apples, a sausage sizzle, information stalls and hot cuppas from the Vinnies Van.

The 47th annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade on March 1 centred around the theme “Free to Be”, celebrating the power of authenticity and diversity.

Waterloo South relocation update

Tenants in 150 homes in Waterloo South’s first stage have been given six months’ notice to relocate for the redevelopment. The area covers two street blocks bounded by John, Cope, McEvoy and Mead streets on the southern edge of the estate.

A funeral for Dr William Victor “Bunno” Simms (January 29, 1946 – February 8, 2025) was held at St Andrew’s Catholic Church, Malabar, on February 19.
