‘road trip’

the sky spreads itself
so far out
I can no longer grasp
my beginning or end

its cream and apricot
thick and delicious thins
to implausible green
as night drops

our car moves steadily
across the plain
straight road dissecting
an inky horizon

and I wait
for the stars
to take possession
of my bones
