HomeCulturePoetry'The Metal Serpent'

‘The Metal Serpent’

A metal snake with iron scales,
it slithers swift on silver rails.
Through city streets and countryside,
it twists and turns, it will not hide.

Its hollow belly filled with life,
a thousand hearts, a thousand strife.
It hums and groans, a mighty beast
devouring miles in an endless feast.

It writhes through valleys draped in mist
where golden fields and rivers twist.
It tunnels deep through mountains’ bones
and sings in echoes made of stone.

The city shudders as it nears,
a screech of brakes, a cry of gears.
Glass and steel reflect its light,
a fleeting shadow in the night.

And when the stars begin to gleam,
it flies along like in a dream.
A phantom pulse, a breathing vein –
the restless, endless metal train.
