Did your kids go to The Settlement? Did you? Established by Sydney University Women’s College, this wonderful local organisation has been providing services for children and youth in our community for over 130 years.
There are grandmothers and fathers in the neighbourhood who went to The Settlement when they were kids.
“This centre has been a part of my extended family for over 20 years,” says local, Kerry. “My sons attended The Settlement and now my grandchildren attend. As grandparents raising a 10-year-old grandson, this centre, and the service it provides, is invaluable.”
Due to increased program costs, afterschool and school holiday programs are in much need of extra funding. The wonderful afterschool children’s programs are free – and costs have gone up.
The Settlement now needs our help. It’s time to give back to your community.
Children’s program co-ordinator, Clare Peterson, who has worked at The Settlement for nine years, says: “The Settlement is a safe space for our kids. They connect with each other, the staff and their community. They learn how to build friendships and practise skills that set them up for life.”
Every school day The Settlement bus picks children up from surrounding primary schools and brings them to the centre. Here they enjoy a range of supervised activities from play and sport to life skills such as cooking and gardening. The programs are run by qualified full-time, casual and volunteer staff.
The Settlement also runs popular free school holiday programs for local children and their families.
