‘As I shell the peas for the family tea, sometimes’

As I shell the peas for the family tea, sometimes,
Sometimes I imagine myself a pea in a pod.

Imagine being held while I grew, having the food I needed to grow,
Imagine being wrapped and protected and warmed.

Having siblings that are like me, being treated equally,
Nestling close enough to be coddled.
