‘The Balcony’

The nonexistence of a front or back yard
Doesn’t concern me in the slightest,
You might see me on my balcony
When the warm sun is at its brightest.

From time to time on summer evenings
After the sun has set with fiery hue,
I’ll spend so much time on my balcony
No other space in my apartment will do.

I’ve enjoyed balconies at various heights
Some too, sky high like floor sixty,
And twenty, three, seventeen and twelve
Near or far the views have transfixed me.

Tonight brings an end to my balcony endeavours
For tomorrow brings errands and more,
When the morrow arrives I’ll be ready again
To join my cat, meowing at the balcony door.
