Sydney Blue Sox split four-game series with Brisbane Bandits

The Sydney Blue Sox battled hard to split a thrilling four-game series with the Brisbane Bandits, keeping them on top of the Australian Baseball League standings after two rounds. Sydney’s offense fired on all cylinders, outscoring Brisbane 23-16 over the weekend and maintaining their reputation as the league’s best run producers and stingiest defense.

 Opening statement

The Blue Sox roared out of the gate, dominating Thursday’s opener with an emphatic 11-1 win. Briley Knight’s four RBIs set the tone, while Sydney’s pitching staff kept Brisbane guessing from the first inning to the last. It was a complete team performance that set up a high-scoring series.

Setbacks and Bandits’ reply

Brisbane answered back in game two, ending Sydney’s momentum with a 9-2 victory at Blacktown. The Bandits then carried their energy into the third game of the set. With standout pitching from Jon Kennedy, and key hits from George Callil, Rixon Wingrove, and Robbie Perkins, Brisbane took control early and held firm, despite a late two-run homer from Hansel Jimenez for the Blue Sox. Sydney’s bats finally broke through in the sixth but couldn’t close the gap, as the Bandits’ defense shut the door.

Series split sealed

Sydney refused to go quietly, storming back in the final encounter. Ben Ferrer tossed five shutout innings, Knight again produced crucial RBIs, and Ky Jackson locked down the middle frames. Brisbane’s four defensive errors proved costly, and Sydney’s late insurance run from Jo Stevens secured a deserved series split. By the end of play, both sides had tallied two wins each, but Sydney’s +7 run differential reinforced their edge in both offense and defense.

Experience the action live

With both clubs now tied atop the ABL with four wins, the Blue Sox are set for another big weekend as they host the powerful Adelaide Giants at Blacktown International Sportspark.
