‘Dust’

A burnt sun sets on a dry desert day
Warmth of my country beneath me,
Sky above, ocean of diamonds appears
Shooting stars to the spinifex, decree.

Glowing coals light the bush around
Indigo amber flames lick the sky,
Paying respects to our dreamtime spirits
Blood of my blood, raising hearts high.

Distinctive crack of clap sticks beat
Brothers on the didge fire away,
Singing our history, unites in our voices
Dancer kulata’s, luminescent white clay.

Precision moves around the fire they go
Akin to tinka and malu with lust,
Stamping heels into the earth below
Toes flicking up, all the red dust …
