Help is at hand for people struggling to book their Covid vaccination as Counterpoint Community Services launches Covid Vax Assist.
A helpline and email address have been set up to assist with questions – and social housing tenants who can prove they are fully vaccinated can enter Counterpoint’s monthly prize draw.
Counterpoint is also asking people to light up lockdown to encourage others to join the campaign and to demonstrate that we can all play our part and that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Counterpoint CEO Mike Shreenan said, “It’s like the ‘We Live Here’ Waterloo solidarity project in 2017 when tower residents lit up their windows to express how they were feeling about the redevelopment plans for their area.
“This time we want to light up all social housing towers and other dwellings to show that we are better together, and we can all play our part in reducing the impacts of COVID on our communities.
“We’re asking people to light up their most visible windows with any decorative lights they may have – LED battery operated strip lights, Christmas fairy lights, window Led sucker lights – every night till the end of the Sydney lockdown.”
The Covid Vax Assist project aims to help people who are struggling for whatever reason to navigate the vaccine booking process, reduce access barriers where possible and encourage those who are eligible to roll up their sleeves and take their shot.
Counterpoint staff are on hand to help people living in Waterloo, Redfern, Alexandria and other areas of South Sydney via the helpline and email address. They will also be doing outreach to offer what help they can to increase booking for the vaccine.
For CALD community members, they say, translation services can be arranged with advance notification.
Social housing tenants who can prove they are fully vaccinated can also enter a monthly prize draw.
Mr Shreenan said Counterpoint invites all locals join it in lighting-up lockdown to inspire others to join the campaign to encourage others to do their part in stopping the spread.
“To reduce the impact of Covid-19 we need to improve vaccination rates – and fast. We’re offering Covid Vax Assist to ensure vulnerable people in our community are less at risk.”
