Yvonne Phillips – faithful, inspirational

A funeral service was held for Yvonne on Monday, July 23, at The Block Main Amphitheatre. Several hundred mourners, including representatives of Wyanga Aboriginal Aged Care, The Settlement, Tribal Warrior, Redfern Community Centre, Babana Men’s Group, the Aboriginal Housing Company, the AMS in Redfern, the NCIE, the City of Sydney, the Rabbitohs, Koori Radio, Redfern Police and various churches, community and government organisations gathered with family and friends to pay their respects to a woman described as faithful, inspirational and loving – “a strong woman of God”.

The service was led by Pastor Willie Dumas and Pastor Peter Walker, with songs by Aunty Allie Golding and Michael Donovan who performed a lovely version of “Look At Us” by Vince Gill: “If you want to see/How true love should be/Then just look at us.”

Following the committal at the Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park in Matraville, family and friends gathered for refreshments at Redfern Community Centre.
