This is an annual event organised by the Redfern & Waterloo Neighbourhood Advisory Board Events Group in National Volunteers’ Week and was held this year at the Alexandria-Erskineville Bowling Club on May 23.

I was honoured this year to receive an award, as were my colleagues at the South Sydney Herald – Norrie (cartoonist, SSH deliverer and source of soap bubbles from her lovely red bicycle) and Ashley Asphodel (photographer).

The South Sydney Herald also received an award to honour all our volunteers and the time and effort they put into preparing and distributing the paper every month. A notable multiple award winner was our sub-editor Catherine Skipper for her many amazing community volunteer works with big applause for her dog Finnegan, who also received an award.

The NAB (as it is called) did a terrific job organising the event, with drink vouchers from the club, a lovely sample bag for all the award-getters, lunch and music.

Thank you all at The Factory Community Centre for continuing to highlight the wonderful people of Redfern and Waterloo and the amazing things they do to help others, their neighbourhoods and the environment.
