ABORIGINAL ART AND CULTURE GATHERINGS

Fortnightly on Saturdays 10am-12pm in Redfern until Saturday December 1.

Graham Toomey will take you on a journey through the history of Aboriginal Australia, reflecting on the European occupation and the changes that arose from this occupation. The gatherings will also touch on Indigenous connection to land and waters and why this connection is vital for sustaining culture. Aboriginal spirituality, beliefs and values have always been a vital part of culture and these topics will be covered during the gatherings. Held at Redfern Community Centre, 29-53 Hugo Street, Redfern. For further information contact: 9288 5713.

VIVID SYDNEY, May 25 to June 16

As well as the usual brilliant lighting on the Opera House and installations and lights around Circular Quay, highlights will be:

Fantastic Oceans at Darling Harbour from May 25 to June 15, and Aqueous at the Royal Botanic Garden from May 25 to June 16. Both from 6pm to 11pm each night. For a full program the official site is www.vividsydney.com.

NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK 2018, May 27 to June 3 and National Sorry Day on May 26.

The theme for this year is “Don’t Keep History a Mystery”. All Australians are invited to learn, share, and grow – by exploring our past, learning more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures, and developing a deeper understanding of our national story.

Other dates of interest this month are:

Food Allergy Week, May 13-19

Food allergy continues to increase at alarming rates. While researchers across the world try to understand more about food allergy and the increase, those in the Australian community live with the challenge of managing risk while maintaining a good quality of life.

Until next time,   Pat Clarke
