Biennale of Sydney March 16 to June 11, 2018

This year’s 21st Biennale promises “70 Artists, 35 Countries, 7 Locations” with the

main venue at Cockatoo Island. For the price of a ferry ticket you can access this fascinating island on Sydney Harbour and enjoy intriguing but maybe not always to-your-taste works of art. One of the main pieces is Ai Weiwei’s “Law of the Journey”: a 60-metre-long inflatable, black rubber life raft, inhabited by 300 faceless, inflatable, black rubber figures. “Law of the Journey” is easily the biggest artwork on display and the size is perhaps meant to symbolise the worldwide refugee crisis that has become Ai’s concern which he also explores in a new film, Human Flow. Carriageworks will also have eight artists exhibiting works. Venues include the Museum of Contemporary Art, Art Gallery of NSW, and others.

Discussions will include: Is your building energy efficient? Shocked at all that good clothing in the red bins? Why don’t we recycle our food waste? Come and hear how your building can do it better.

Autumn School Holidays are from April 14 to April 30, 2018.

There will be plenty of holiday activities in your local area, so contact your local Council for information.

The march will commence at Redfern Community Centre and proceed up Redfern Street to the Cenotaph and Memorial at Redfern Park, where there will be a flag raising ceremony, some remarks from guests and entertainment thanks to Australian superstar John Paul Young. The day will end with a wreath-laying ceremony followed by the Last Post.

Until next time,
