‘Toy Story’

Christmas Eve
Myers open till midnight
the toy department
rush and crush
jab and grab

a touch at my elbow
a grey bear
with button eyes of
quiet despair
a brown dog
in the shelter
of his arm
not in-toys  no brand
behind their ears
I bought them

thirty-five years on
Greyling is still here
along with BrownBob
friends 4ever
but 4ever is not 4me
and maybe not 4them
if another mortal
doesn’t care as much
about a brown dog
and a grey bear
