Sox stun Perth: 9 straight, even Yankees envy it

The Sydney Blue Sox completed a commanding four-game sweep of the Perth Heat in Western Australia, extending their winning streak to nine and matching the franchise record in the process. The Blue Sox now sit five games clear at the top of the standings, underlining their status as the form team of the league with a weekend that showcased elite pitching, timely hitting and airtight defence.

Nunez seals opener in style
Game one on Thursday, December 4, set the tone as the Blue Sox edged out a 4–3 thriller, preserved by Pablo Nunez’s spectacular full-length diving catch in centre field to close out the ninth with the tying run in scoring position. Alex Wells delivered seven composed innings, conceding just two earned runs with six strikeouts to blunt a Perth lineup that has punished opposing pitching all season.

Starters dominate middle games
In game two the following day, Landon Bourassa turned in a complete-game masterclass, striking out nine without issuing a walk in a 5–3 victory built on relentless pressure through the middle innings. The momentum rolled straight into game three on Saturday where Jagger Beck’s second consecutive shutout start and an 8–0 result in the seven-inning contest left the Heat searching for answers on both sides of the ball.

Ferrer, Rataczak finish the job
Ben Ferrer was superb in the 5–1 finale, striking out eight across six innings while allowing only a solo home run as Sydney closed out the sweep with authority. At the heart of the surge, Eric Rataczak continues to lead the league in both home runs and OPS, while Wells sits atop the strikeout charts, giving the Blue Sox a lethal combination of power and pitching as their record-equalling streak gathers momentum.

Streak stacks up with Yankees
In 2025, the world-famous New York Yankees, a powerhouse club loaded with star talent and championship expectations every season, put together a season-best winning streak of eight games, a mark most teams would gladly claim as elite form. For the Blue Sox to roll past that number with a nine-game surge of their own, tying a franchise record in the process, sends a clear message that this run is no fluke and that Sydney belongs firmly in the conversation as one of the most legitimate forces in professional baseball this season.
