Redfern Station upgrade update

The lines proposed are on the eastern side of Redfern Station unlike the earlier City Relief Line.

This means that the new city line will not go through North Eveleigh and that site should not be required to construct the new line.

It seems likely from the material released that the new plan will use existing platforms at Redfern and that a Redfern Station upgrade does not need to be delayed waiting for new lines or platforms. It may still have to wait for government funding in a tight budget.

Redfern Station is not mentioned in the document specifically. The document does identify network problems needing to be addressed including “crowded stations that rely on stairs” and “narrow platforms in busy CBD stations, which hinder passenger flow between trains and stairs”. That sounds like Redfern.
