Out & About – August 2025

Welcome to our new name, and farewell to “Volunteers’ News”.

Redfern Walk – Sunday August 10, 10am-12pm
This is a two-hour architecture walk to explore the changing landscape of Redfern’s built environment with Klan, a knowledgeable Australian Architecture Association guide. The walk will start at the Clock Tower, Old Redfern Post Office. Cost is $40 for adults and $30 concession. Bookings at https://eventbrite.com.au/e/redfern-walk-tickets

Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival – Saturday August 16 to Sunday August 24, 9am-4.45pm daily
This annual festival is at Auburn Botanic Gardens, Chiswick Rd, Auburn, with 150 blossoming trees in a traditional style Japanese Garden. Tickets must be booked online for entry to the festival as numbers are capped within the gardens. Tickets are $16.60 for adults, $8.95 for children 5-16 years, Seniors Card holders $8.95 (conditions apply). Contact: https://cumberland,nsw.gov.au/sydneycherryblossomfestival

National Art School and Galleries, 156 Forbes St, Darlinghurst
Situated on Gadigal land in the heritage listed former Darlinghurst Gaol, as well as wonderful historic buildings, the NAS Gallery is showing The Neighbour at the Gate, until October 18. The exhibition shows works by leading Australian artists focussing on immigration, legacies of colonialism, exclusion and resilience. Entry is free and the Gallery is open from 11am-5pm Monday to Saturday.

University of Sydney Community Festival 2025 – stallholder EOIs now open
After two incredible years, this year’s festival on November 8 will come alive with music, talks and tours, family-friendly activities, and so much more. Stallholders are invited to join the action with clothes, homewares, vintage finds and art. EOIs close August 10. Artisans in the Park – Saturday, September 6
It’s shaping up to be another great one at Dr Foley Rest Park in Glebe with locally made ceramics, jewellery, paintings, handmade glass and crocheted items, even a young lad who creates personalised braille cards on request. Instagram: @artisansintheparksydney
