Keep your cool this summer

Are you too hot? Is your apartment too stuffy? Does opening all the windows make things worse, not better?

Here are some simple ideas to stay cool in the heat:

  1. Freeze a bottle of water and place it directly in front of your desk fan. The air will pick up the cold as it passes the bottle.
  2. Soak a neck scarf in iced water and tie it around your neck and shoulders when you go for a walk.
  3. Place a small ice pack on the crown of your head, under your hat.
  4. In extreme heat, you’re better off keeping your house closed to prevent the heat from coming in. Turn the fan on and drink plenty of water.
  5. As it cools down, open the house and try to create a cross breeze (open more than one side) to get hot air out and let your home cool down.
  6. Ice blocks: adults can enjoy vodka and orange or cucumber and apple ice blocks, while kids can have weak cordial ice blocks (sugar-free cordials are fine too).
  7. You might not believe in a sky-fairy (some would say God), and you might not be technologically proficient at praying, but I am. In my experience, asking or praying for help to feel good, regardless of the temperature, is extremely effective and can make a real difference.

Most of all, have a great summer, stay safe, stay hydrated, and enjoy the outdoors in the beautiful weather.
