‘Fire and Ice’

There, on the side of the giant hull,
old photos show the stark black patch,
historians tell the latest findings:
fire in the belly of Titanic,
deckchairs arranged to face the music,
as they powered along, and the band played on,
Atlantic ice met raging fire, let in the rush
to claim twelve hundred souls,
and in another century their melodies keep calling
to millionaire dreams imploding,
as they add their notes to the long lost songs
and truth floats to the surface.
