It has been a few years since we last checked in with Glenn but he is still happily spinning his Big Issue magazines at Central station. “I’ve been down at Central station for a long time now on the corner of Elizabeth and Foveaux Street.”

While Glenn has become a fixture at those lights there has been a new addition to the corner. “There is a lot of tram work going through at the moment. It has made it a bit hard because sales have dropped a bit and I like spinning my mags and doing my routine but it’s a bit hard with all the noise in the background. The noise is only a couple of metres away which gets to your head, but I try and deal with it.

“I’m still doing my pitch at Central but I’ve relocated during the day, going up to David Jones on Market Street to make up some sales and get away from the noise. I leave Central after 9am which means I still get to see my regular customers in the morning as they head off to work.

“A few customers who miss me after 9 o’clock have walked up during their lunchtime to David Jones to see me which has been really cool.

“I’m looking forward to the new tramline though. It is going to be of benefit later on because there is going to be more people, and hopefully, more sales and new customers.

The Big Issue is not the only thing that Glenn does, however. He volunteers at numerous events. “It is something I love doing, it gives me something different to do and it’s another way that I can go out and meet people.

“If all goes well I’ll be heading up for an interview on the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games. If I get accepted I’m going to love it because it will mean that I’ve done the Olympic Games in 2000 and the Commonwealth Games.”

Would he ever leave The Big Issue?

“I’m enjoying my job but if the opportunity came up to have full-time work then I would take it, but my main goal is to focus on The Big Issue. That and to save up to go to America to see Wrestle Mania. It’s been a dream that I’ve wanted to do all my life. The tough thing about saving though is that something always gets in the way.”
