Hidden Gems in Our City and Suburbs: Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden, Lavender Bay

This is a genuine gem, hidden away on former railway land near Clark Park, Lavender Street, Lavender Bay.

Following the death of her husband, Brett Whiteley, Wendy set about clearing the overgrown land and transforming it into a wonderful public garden, a cool place to be enjoyed by everyone. She worked initially by herself and was later assisted by paid gardeners and dedicated volunteers. You can get there by ferry to Milsons Point Wharf, or Sydney Trains to North Sydney Station. Unfortunately, the Lavender Bay ferry is no longer running.

You can find more information about this wonderful garden here.

Summer officially starts Tuesday 1 December 2026 and ends Sunday 28 February 2027. The Summer Solstice will be on Tuesday 22 December 2026.
