‘try to go quietly into that darker state’

try to go quietly into that darker state
where oblivion will take away the pain
of  living way past your use-by date

unable now to produce for grift or gain
you are not permitted to rest your limbs
but when in your chair must daily strain

to rotate, stretch and flex as staying trim
will keep the Aged Facility from your door
better still bravely totter to the gym

no watching trash TV or lotto draw
instead get into mind games for the old
sudoku, crosswords or checkerboard

make sure you don’t put time on hold
and sitting by the window of your soul
consider now the meaning of the whole
