Wests Tigers Women’s team unveil new era at 2025 season launch

The Wests Tigers Women’s team signalled a bold new direction at their 2025 NRLW season launch on Thursday night, June 12, held at Zurich Tower, with a revamped squad, fresh leadership, and a star-studded coaching staff ready to make an impact.

Veteran Jillaroos and Origin star Kezie Apps was officially named captain following her new signing until 2029, bringing a wealth of experience to the role. She will be supported by vice-captains Sarah ‘Sala’ Togatuki and Emily Bass, forming a strong leadership trio tasked with guiding a squad featuring 14 new faces, including two promising rugby union converts.

Head coach Brett Kimmorley, now joined by newly appointed assistant coach Greg Inglis, spoke of his excitement about the team’s potential. “We’ve brought in some incredible talent, and with the leadership of Kezie, Sala, and Emily, we’re building something special,” Kimmorley said. Inglis, a rugby league legend, will bring his attacking expertise to the squad as they look to improve on last season’s campaign.

Among the most exciting recruits is Aaliyah Bula, the daughter of former NRL hardman Solomon Haumono and wife of Tigers’ fullback Jahream Bula. The dynamic outside back, who starred for the Eels in the 2024 Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership, has earned a development contract after a standout pre-season.

Another key addition is Tallara Bamblett, a crafty young half and Indigenous All-Stars touch football representative. Her creativity and speed add a new dimension to the Tigers’ attack.

Meanwhile, the forward pack gains serious firepower with the signing of Jessikah Reeves, a Papua New Guinea international and former Cowboys enforcer known for her bruising runs and relentless defence.

With a mix of seasoned stars, emerging talent, and a diverse coaching team, the Wests Tigers Women’s side is primed to reverse the fortunes of their last season. As the NRLW campaign approaches, fans can expect a fearless, fast-paced brand of football from this reinvented squad.

The Wests Tigers’ campaign begins at Totally Workwear Stadium against the Brisbane Broncos on Saturday, July 5.
