Woolloomooloo Street Parade lights up the streets with community spirit

The streets of Woolloomooloo came alive with vibrant energy on Friday, May 16, as the annual Woolloomooloo Parade made its much-anticipated return for a third year. Kicking off outside Plunkett Street Public School on Forbes Street, the event was a joyful celebration of the suburb’s distinctive character, brought to life through music, art, dance, and a strong sense of community.

Organised by The Woolloomooloo Connection, the parade gathered hundreds of residents, artists, and performers in a lively display of local pride. Created by the community and for the community, the Woolloomooloo Parade shines a light on neighbourhood stories and everyday lives. This year, the spotlight was on the bold, noisy, and unmistakably cheeky cockatoo — a true icon of Woolloomooloo’s urban wildlife.

Originally launched in 2023 by Artspace in partnership with grassroots housing advocates, the event was born from a vision to celebrate creativity and resilience — especially from those with lived experience of homelessness and housing stress.

As the neighbourhood continues to evolve, the Woolloomooloo Parade remains a vibrant and unifying tradition — a celebration of the community’s inclusive spirit, creative soul, and unapologetic pride.
