Are you a writer or do you have a desire to write? At the Edges is a new publishing community that offers more than just a publishing platform.
The founders, Surry Hills couple Armen Gakavian and Karina Kreminski, are passionate about nurturing emerging writers and provide coaching, resourcing, editing and connection with other writers.
They believe that if you write regularly, then you are a writer.
“The dream of starting a Publishing Community has been sitting within us, fermenting for decades,” says Karina. Both she and Armen bring extensive experience in writing and coaching. For the last nine years, Armen has also been the editor of a quarterly print magazine and monthly e-magazine.
“We’re feeling a deep call to invest in the next generation,” continues Karina. “So it seems like a natural next step for us to support other writers.”
Karina has published a book on Urban Spirituality and blogs regularly on Substack at An Ordinary Mystic.
She also runs two-hour Writers Studios at the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre, held over four weeks. The first hour is a quiet time for writing and the second hour is an opportunity to share your writing for feedback. “It’s a great way to get to know local emerging writers and to grow your skills,” says Karina.
Karina and Armen also hosted an online Writers Lounge in March and are planning a local Winter Read-In for later this year.
But why At the Edges? “We want to highlight the voices and issues that often remain unheard – voices that are innovative and creative, that entice us to go deeper,” Armen explains. “We love asking the big questions about life.”
