‘I don’t like writing a villanelle’

I don’t like writing a villanelle
a form the devil has decreed
bad poets must compose in hell

finding words that rhyme with ‘ell’
or ‘eed’ is not a task I really need
I don’t like writing a villanelle

a hex on j’ay perdu ma tourterelle
the first of that vexatious breed
bad poets must compose in hell

it’s not my fault he lost his gal
or that he suffered from OCD
I don’t like writing a villanelle

but I should try to do it well
to avoid the sisyphean screed
bad poets must compose in hell
as I don’t like writing a villanelle
