‘Easter 2024’

We write it out, we edit and collate
Confessing emptiness, the power of God
Imagine it, try to communicate
Like leaven in the loaf, in ink like blood

Self-sacrifice, the gift of life for friends
And overturning expectations too
A hateful tale recalls what it portends
Aid workers on the way won’t make it through

My lips are moving, my mouth makes no sound
Whose hand to clasp, whose plight to understand?
A body lying dormant on the ground
An enemy extends a gracious hand

Amid the temple ruins, scattered thoughts
Our psalms and other songs from broken hearts
