VOLUNTEERS’ NEWS – Peter and Sam

Peter became a volunteer driver with South Sydney Herald from late

August last year.  Our drivers are part of our newspaper delivery team,

picking up and delivering monthly issues of the paper to our volunteer deliverers and to various other outlets such as shops, community organisations and libraries where multiple copies are left for public information. This requires a real dedication from the driver and team to distribute 16,000 copies each month, working out the best routes, and getting in and out of the vehicle in all weathers to drop off bundles of the paper.

Following the unexpected passing of our Distribution Coordinator, Ross Smith, in October 2016, Peter doubled his efforts and helped to ensure the success of deliveries as well as the wellbeing of team members.

Peter also volunteers as a cleaner at South Sydney Uniting Church, helping prepare the church hall which serves as a venue for overnight accommodation each week.

Thank you, Peter, for your enthusiasm and willingness to take on such a vital role.

Thank you and farewell to Sam Choy

Sadly, Sam has given up his volunteer distributor work for us to move to another Inner West suburb. He delivered 700 copies of the SSH around Alexandria and Green Square each month since 2008, which is a tremendous commitment. You will be missed Sam, but we wish you every happiness in your new residence.
